The two sides will collaborate on AI technology R&D, talent development and other activities. Under the agreement, they will build a joint AI innovation base where Tencent Cloud will build an AI-enabled data center, private cloud platform, and algorithms platform.

In addition, the duo will make joint efforts to solve world-class problems regarding the new power quality inspection by leveraging Tencent YouTu Lab’s technical strengths in computer vision. Efforts are also being made to help CATL improve its R&D efficiency, accelerate the construction of technical backup battery capacities and improve the level of R&D of advanced AI technologies.

As a world-leading developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries, CATL is dedicated to the R&D, production and sale of battery and energy storage systems related to New Energy Vehicles (NEV). In 2020, CATL ranked first in the world for the fourth consecutive year in terms of annual installed battery capacity.

Backed by AI algorithms from top labs like Tencent Youtu Lab, Tencent Cloud has so far offered AI technologies and services to over 1.2 billion users globally and has partnered with more than 2 million customers.

CATL said that bringing technologies such as AI, big data and cloud computing to the production of batteries used by NEV would significantly improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency, reduce defect rates, ensure the security and improve capacity.
